Cape Breton Home of our Hearts
Cape Breton Regional Police have arrested 14 people in an undercover sting targeting street drugs in the Sydney area.
Police said an undercover officer from the Halifax force bought small amounts of drugs over several months.
That led to the arrests around the municipality Tuesday morning.
Thirteen people from Sydney, Glace Bay and New Waterford face drug trafficking charges. One person is charged with violating a court order.
Police Chief Peter McIsaac said it sends a “direct message to drug dealers that we do not tolerate this type of activity in the CBRM.”
Police said Operation Brew yielded morphine, oxycodone, hydromorphone, cocaine and marijuana. Prescription drugs accounted for about two-thirds of the 66 charges laid.
The investigation continues and more arrests are expected.
